BuilDing creative spaces for artistic expression

Our next plan

RANG VIDUSHAK

The Bansi Kaul Centre for Theatre Practice, Research and Education

Around 20 km from Bhopal on the road to Sehore, located in the Huzur tehsil Phanda block of district Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), exists the Berkhedi Bazyaft village. Branching off from this highway, is the actual road that leads to the Berkhedi village, where on a 3-acre piece of land is the space for Rang Vidushak: The Bansi Kaul Centre for Theatre Practice, Research and Education (BKC).

Rang Vidushak has always been and will remain to be a space for grooming young students aspiring to become theatre personalities with a purpose to serve society in a better way, while they complete their graduation course. It has worked as a modern gurukul, where its theatre practice becomes the means for education in the broadest sense of the term. It has been a rangateerth for those wanting to view and recognise theatre as something more than mere performance. It has been in the best sense a khanqah… a Shrine on Crossroads, where one gathers, interacts and then moves on.

Rang Vidushak’s BKC will make it possible to

  • Bring together the three basic areas of performance, research and education
  • Make room for understanding through theory and praxis, research and practical training the roots from where this country’s performance and non-performance  forms spring
  • Allow the actor-student and researcher to analyse, compare and take further existing forms of performance
  • Re-invent training methods so as to interpret ‘contemporaneity’ from an Indian viewpoint
  • Seek to fathom the close link between praxis and academics

Rang Vidushak’s BKC would accommodate the following:

  • A simple residential space for scholars, visiting faculty and students
  • A closed auditorium
  • The Rang Chitra Gallery for exhibiting paintings and artefacts that were collected by Bansi Kaul during his lifetime
  • The Farid Bazmi Library-cum-Research Centre for Theatre Studies
  • The Rang Vidushak Publications cell
  • The Rang Vidushak Studio-cum-Archival Documentation Centre
  • (Bansi-Anjana Zoon Maal) BAZM Study Centre for education through theatre with a difference
  • Sangavari a space for empowering the woman and educating her child, giving the disadvantaged woman and her child a world that is congenial, kind and interesting to live, work and play in
